• Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s Associate Professor in Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management Fugee Tsung was elected Regional Vice-president (Asia) of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) headquartered in Metro Atlanta, USA.His appointment will be effective starting 1 April, 2008 and for a term of two years.

    In his capacity as Regional Vice President for Asia, Dr Tsung will become the voice of all Asia chapters and members, representing them at the local level in the IIE leadership, and will encourage growth and development of the IE profession in this region.

    Dr Tsung is the first Six Sigma Consultant of American Society for Quality (ASQ) in the Greater China Region. He is also one of the three ASQ authorized Six Sigma (Black Belt) trainers in Asia. With extensive experience in quality management and Six Sigma training, Dr Tsung has provided Six Sigma consultancy services to local enterprises, including New World Telecom, International Bank of Asia, Philips Electronics, etc.

    Six Sigma is a systematic managerial improvement program focused on breakthroughs in financial performance and customer satisfaction.

    Dr Tsung received his MS and PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. As the founder and director of HKUST’s Quality Lab established 1997, he manages the laboratory’s activities in the training, consulting and research in statistical quality, Six Sigma techniques, manufacturing and service process control and quality improvement.

    Founded in 1948, IIE is an international, non-profit association that provides leadership for the application, education, training, research, and development of industrial engineering.
